SIX PIANO SONATAS These piano sonatas should be heard in order as they represent the development of my technique. The first sonata’s first movement is an unabashed salute to Mozart’s famous C major sonata known to virtually every beginning piano student, but as the work progresses, hints of Haydn, Schubert, and Beethoven appear and in addition to contemporaneous musical styles, there are nods to the earlier, baroque contrapuntal method of composing. The following two sonatas reach into the early romantic and point to composers like Mendelssohn and Schumann. Then a dramatic shift occurs. The final three piano sonatas unleash modern harmony with ever more challenging modes, unusual time signatures and melodic dissonance and conclude with a finale that seeks to produce a complete dismantling of the musical themes.
In four movements, composed roughly in the musical style of Brahms – circa 1870’s. Created entirely in Garageband, so be advised your are hearing a digital version. Real performance to come!
